creative mom day

I got a bright idea at 6:20 a.m. to have Lily give her baby "medicy". Worked like a charm. No more screaming.

Then Eloise and I had mommy time while Lily and daddy had their time. We made brownies and chocolate milk. (Yes, I am completely aware that there are raw eggs in the brownies. I have yet to get sick and my favorite dessert is cookie dough or cake batter.)

And just because they are cute.

I am so sorry for you to have to deal with the asthma.

That was/is such a smart idea to have her help her baby take the medicine too! I am going to remember that.

I have two little guys that some times have flare ups too. One from allergies the other is viral induced.
In case it helps I wanted to share two things:
1)it has helped me a lot to have a peak flow meter. If they have one that would work for your sweet Lily, it may help ease your mind a bit to have this indicator about when things are good, getting bad and going downhill fast.
2)My little guy has that same spacer for his inhaler. It helped him to do it properly if we sing together. So now, he automatically sings twinkle little star with me when I put it on. And we know when we are done with the song I will take it off his face.
Sometimes unsolicited advise is no help at all and if that is the case ignore mine! But I thought I'd share just in case.

amy - THANKS!!! seriously that is so much help. We have taken to counting to 10 (since she is learning how to count) and it's fun for her to say the numbers.

where can I get a peak flow meter? I was wishing I had a pulse/ox machine so I knew where she was at the other morning.

so much help :) I love unsolicited advice...well the good kind anyway!

Oh good. I am glad you don't think I am a weirdo even though we have never met. But I am friends with your friends and have kept up on the life and times of Lily and Eloise.

I got my peak flow meter from our allergist. But it was for my oldest son when he was 4. So I am wondering if they have one that would measure the peak flow of a younger child. If I were you, I would ask your dr. and your pharmacist. It is just a hunk of plastic that they blow into to give you a number. We have them do it three times to get an average. We know what that average is when they are healthy, when we need to start giving the inhalers (and steroids, yuck!), and when we need to go in for a breathing treatment (thankfully, only a few times).

I too have wondered about renting a oxygenation reader (not the official name I know). I wonder how much it would be. If it kept us from dr. visits and er breathing treatments, maybe it would be worth the money. I have been meaning to get myself a stethoscope for the same reason. I figure we can educate ourselves a little bit and help our kiddos before the have any big problems.

One last thing, our dr. told us to give the inhaler right before bed because evidently the 3am-ish hour is the worst for kids with these problems (and when we had the ambulance come one time!).

Ok, I am done dominating your comments.
