Turtlenecks

The site of a turtleneck makes me want to break out in hives.

I see pictures in catalogs and quickly turn the page before I can start the rapid breathing. How can anyone wear someone that feels like a sweatband around their neck? Does it really make you that much warmer? Does the 4 inches of material create some super heater that I've never been privy too?

I'm getting nervous just looking at this
I do have to admit that some people look really great wearing them. And coupled with a puffy vest, very cute and apparently very warm.

In order to avoid the anxiety attacks all t-necks bring me, I've opted for the v-neck. It's not always the best choice when you are prone to cleavage, but what would you rather choose, anxiety Kate or cleavage Kate. Okay don't answer that, I'm working on the exposure part. But in the meantime, I'm looking for some great shirts that are not constricting around the neck, long in length and able to accommodate a growing, but not yet prego belly.

I'm wondering if this is what I need.
I'm loving Down East Basics, but I'm too nervous to order. The picture on the opening page of their site is what I really want. Maybe I'll take the plunge this week. In the meantime I'll be doing my best to avoid ALL turtlenecks.

Hi Kate. You don't know me but I've been reading your blog for a while. I have three little ones (almost 4, 2 and 3 months), and have enjoyed your tales of mommyhood. I have not commented until now.
I hate turtlenecks too. I remember when my mom forced me to wear them as a kid. I still shudder at the memory.
I also have cleavage issues, but really the lower neck is not only more comfortable but more flattering as well.
Anyway, during my last pregnancy, I wore lots of shirts with a neckline like the one you showed and I LOVED them! Better coverage than the V-neck and gives the shirt a nice touch of femininity. I got all mine from Old Navy, so I don't know about the specific shirt you mentioned, but for some reason I had to comment anyway. :)
Congratulations on your pregnancy and hearing the heartbeat. I know the challenge of being pregnant with two demanding little ones (mine are boys), but I found the addition of the third (my little girl), was the easiest yet. (Of course, easy is a very relative term...)
Take care.

I hate turtlenecks. Marcia and I had this same discussion the other day, and refuse to put our poor kids in them. ha ha.

If you like a Vneck but hate the cleavage, try a cute lacy or plain tank under it. Spices it up a bit, and gives you coverage!

I have gone back and forth with the turtleneck and am now in the "back" stage, (or is that "forth"?) anyway, I don't like them either. YOu, by the way, are hilarious and I love that you just posted on turtlenecks:)

Bekah - thanks for commenting. I always love to know who is reading my blog and fellow mama of 3. thanks for the encouragement and the tip on shirts.

T - I can barely put my kids in them. It takes all I have.

I don't like turtlenecks either. I don't know what it is, but I feel like they make my bust line look bigger. Don't want any of that thankyouverymuch.

Try the Wonder Cami from Downeast! You can put one under a v-neck and be cleave-free! They're my faaavorites.

I bought two turtlenecks last year. I don't know why... Maybe I thought it was time to try. Really I've worn them each one time. It feels so grandma!

So instead I just keep finding nice crewneck longsleeves in random stores. Last was in Target and more of a boatneck cut which I love. Just as warm and not constricting. YAY!
