They were bad to begin with

Yesterday, at the mall, I had a flashback.

I looked over at a teenage girl and what did my eyes behold...ACID WASHED, PEGGED JEANS!
Yes, I saw them in the flesh. Those same familiar pants I (we) wore back in the 8th grade. The ones I made my mom sew so tight to my calf that I could barely get them off by myself.

I wanted to run over and tell her to stop. Stop wearing such hideous jeans. I did that 15 years ago and it was bad then. Don't repeat my same mistake. Go back to the bootleg, please!

What would have been worse is if she paired them with an over-sized hypercolor sweatshirt and a neon ESPRIT bag that her mom bought for $30. Thankfully, there was no neon. Just those ridiculously out of date, but apparently back in style, acid-washed jeans.

What I'd really like to know? What company sat around their concept table and came up with this idea. No wait, what idiot came up with the idea and didn't immediately lose their job? A group of people somewhere said, "Yes. Acid-washed, pegged jeans are a great idea! Let's go for it." I have a feeling they were in their early 20's and do not remember that horrible phase. They will now and in about 10 years and be saying, "Why did we ever think that looked good?"

A complete outfit would have been those terrible oversized hats with the even larger silk flower sewen on. "Blossom Hats" Or watching Blossom and playing MASH at the same time!

Ahhhhh...good times. Good times.

100% agree on the nightmare that is acid wash jeans. It's quite shocking to see that everything in Children's Place is EVERYTHING that I was wearing in 3rd grade--I should have just kept everything!! Psh!

I guess you did not see my facebook update yesterday where I said I had just come back from the mall and saw NEON everywhere. Dont worry.... soon I am sure neon will be paired with these jeans. And it is NOT good. I agree with you, some things need to die and stay that way!!!!!

The same company up with the jeans that has re-marketed every toy we every played with when we were little to our kids! Cabbage patch, my little pony, gi joe, etc!!!

Here is what I - being a "hot" girl - really loved about hypercolor........the fact that my armpits were always the most dramatic color change when I wore it. Awesome. Oh, and how I loved my red esprit bag with white letters! I've seen these fashion flashbacks at Bill's school! Yikes!!!

Oh yes, spending my days in a high school, I get the joy of seeing these things daily! Remember how hard it was to get those dumb jeans off?!?!?!?! Perhaps this means it's time for me to begin shopping in the "adult" sections...

Wrong, isn't it? I was at the mall a while back and saw that Macy's was selling STIRRUP PANTS. I laughed out loud and immediately had to call a friend, and warn her that the past was coming back to haunt us!!

I just came over from Rocks In My Dryer. I loved your guest post! Beautifully done!

OH YES, I teach at a middle school and you just would not believe. Not only do they think they look awesome, they ARE pairing it with oversized hypercolor sweatshirt and neon ESPRIT bag. Except now the bag says TWILIGHT. Neon striped shirts, acid washed jeans, large houndstooth green and black checked leggings type pants on BOYS, vests, gloves on one hand, fingerless gloves, color on top of color! green hair, general craziness!

Found your from your Rocks in My Dryer post, thanks!

I got in trouble from my manager when I took in the legs of my brown McDonald's trousers like this. I had to pay for the pants. But, with the matching brown polo shirt I looked rather mod, which was fine by me.
