2010

At church this morning, our leaders asked what we felt like 2010 would be about. Did we have any convictions that the Lord has brought to mind? What did He want this year to be?

Trust

Trust will define our year.

Trust in the small stuff -- energy for the day, patience for my children, creativity in parenting, encouragement for my husband and children.

Trust in the big stuff -- a job for Dave, money for the mortgage, a place to live if there is no money for said mortgage.

And along with that trust, rejoicing when we see provision. And being humbled that He has provided great things.

I have no idea what life will be like this year. I don't know where we will be in 6 months, let alone 2 months. There are so many unknowns that to stop and think about them all makes me start to panic.

But then I am reminded that my God is BIG, GOOD, and incredibly LOVING.

Commit your way the Lord; trust in Him and he will do this:
He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

~Psalm 37:6-7

More thoughts on this can be read here, written by my friend, Katie. We had lunch the day after Dave found out he would no longer have work. Our conversation was encouraging.

Kate, reading your posts brings back some memories for Scott and I. Although we're young, and just expecting our first child - the first 4 years of our marriage, we didn't know what would happen the next day. I felt like I was living in the mind space of "waiting for the other shoe to drop." Seriously - ask anyone who has been around us for the first 4 years - like Aimee and Jono and they will tell you - it almost became hilarious - and like "Oh my gosh, how funnY! This year we owe $8,000 in taxes and have no way to pay that!! That's hilarous!!!!" because there was no other way to face it. Or, oh my gosh, - awesome Scott can't work for 7 months while we wait for his visa documents, or Awesome, that company is shutting down and Scott's with out a job again!" Boy oh boy, did God teach us so many things - the most important one is that he has to be FIRST. Sometimes we'd find ourselves saying "well we've done everything, I guess we just need to go to God now." WHAT? That should have been our FIRST response!
Anyways - it's REALLY hard to see others around you thriving - with working husbands, and regular debit cards...but trust me - God will teach them however he needs to teach them.
God will use this time to refine you guys I promise.
How can we be molded, beautiful clay if we're not willing to go through the fire of the kiln - as uncomfortable as it is.
Our saying now is - God is more concerned with our character than our comfort - and cares more about our Holiness than our happiness.
Praying for you guys.
Thank you for being so honest.
